Ah yes.
So my brother-in-law, who may I say is quite a cool guy, bought Age of Empires 3 for me because (I think) he feels really bad that I seem to have no life in the gaming world anymore.
Well first let me say that the game absolutely rocks, but installing for me was a bit of a beast. I would get to disk 3 and it would keep bombing out with the error 1935 and then proceed to do a rollback.
Anyway, found this jewel posted by 'painkiller5' at the AOE official forums - which if you believe what is posted there offers support at a standard below that of SOE with Star Wars Galaxies.
What I found was that I had to install the xms parser (FOR A GAME!!! LOL) from Microsoft, but that still didn't solve the issue. To get around the rollback, follow below and then run the Direct X install for 9c (EVEN if you have 9c installed on your computer) from the CD.

I came here cuz my game didn't work too. I had the 1935 error (when the game's almost completed installing) and after that the -1603. I got my game to work, so follow my steps and it might work with your game too.
1. Install the game as far as possible
2. When you get your error (1935) don't click ok
3. Go to your game folder (mostly C:\Program Files\Microsoft Game\Age of Empires 3)
4. Cut the map 'Microsoft Games' to anywhere on your harddrive
5. When it's fully copied, return to the installation and click ok, rollback action will appear. Click OK to any given error.
6. Click finished when rollback action is completed.
7. Cut the Microsoft Games (in the other folder) and paste it to C:\Program Files.
8. Start the game up with the age3.exe
Your game starts up now. If it gives the error 'msxml4 is required', download it from the microsoft site. TURN OF AD-WATCH IF YOU HAVE THAT, IT STOPS MICROSOFT FROM MODIFYING THEIR PRODUCT. Now you can play the game.
Remember you can always make a shortcut on the desktop. It's installed like it should, only not through the installation process. I'll let you know if I find anything diffirent then when it's installed through the setup.
Enjoy!
Remember, step 9 will probably be you have to install Direct X again but MAN the game looks fantastic.
